Many travelers get so caught up in a state of wanderlust that they can easily forget the amazing destinations they call their neighbors.
Canada is one such destination for Americans. Far too many people seem to forget about the beauty the country has to offer, but this should not be the case.
Once you visit one or more of these spots, you probably won’t let Canada slip to the back of your mind again. Here are just a couple of the country’s most popular destinations for a first-time Canada explorer:
Toronto:
Toronto isn’t necessarily an outdoorsman’s paradise like some other spots throughout Canada, but it has a little something for everyone. The region’s beaches are popular hotspots for locals and tourists alike, and are popular destinations for boating and water sports.
Toronto is also very well known for its gigantic Chinatown. The meals are cheap and authentic, and it’s also a great place to get hearty Asian fruits that aren’t found in chain supermarkets.
Though Toronto’s theme parks, entertainment centers and museums aren’t always exceptionally unique compared to those found in the United States, there are a few notable eccentricities to take note of.
For instance, every September, Toronto’s Queen’s Park hosts Canada’s largest annual outdoor book and magazine festival. You can also take tours of Casa Loma, the former “medieval” estate of entrepreneur Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Those who do want a signature outdoor experience should check out the trails in the Don Valley.
Nova Scotia:
Nova Scotia has been deemed by locals and tourists alike to be home to “the friendliest people in Canada.” Perhaps its citizens are so happy because they live in a region that is filled to the brim with fresh air and beautiful natural scenery. Nova Scotia boasts over 100 beaches in addition to impeccable sailing, excellent hiking and beautiful natural parks. The region is a dream for those who love to spend entire days and nights outside.
Adventurous travelers can hike the seven-mile Skyline Trail, kayak the North River, swim on Melmerby Beach or go tidal bore rafting on the Shubenacadie River. Even if you’d rather take it easy, you’ll find amazing low-key experiences driving along the picturesque Cabot Trail, attending a summer concert in Halifax, relaxing in Upper Clements Park, or wandering through the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens.
Nova Scotia is a nearly idyllic travel option for the modern North American explorer, and should definitely be on your radar if breathtaking landscapes are your thing.
