And the Winners Are….
National Case Management Week Celebration
Get Away Giveaway Contest Winners Announced
Angel MedFlight would like to thank all of the health care professionals who entered our Get Away Giveaway contest in celebration of National Case Management week in October. We received more than 1,100 entries from across the country! We appreciated their participation and their insight on how we can best support your work.
The winners were randomly selected through two drawings on Tuesday, November 3 and each received an $800 airfare voucher for the airline of her choice. We are pleased to announce that our two contest winners reflect the continuum of case managers: an experienced mentor and an excited new professional.
A Committed Leader With A Tenacious Spirit
Doreen Day has helped thousands of patients and their families navigate the health care system. Working in case management for twenty years, she has seen her profession grow and evolve through the last two decades.
“We are facing trying times in Case Management but as the regulations change, the importance of RN/SW Case Managers is being realized by those in the ‘C-suite’. The role is always challenging yet rewarding,” Doreen explained.
As a supervisor, she uses her expertise to train and guide professionals new to case management. In fact, mentoring other case managers is Doreen’s favorite part of her leadership role in Stony Brook, New York. Doreen stays current with changing trends in health care and government regulations by attending classes and conferences throughout the year. She continually shares her knowledge with her team and they count on her extensive experience. Doreen also advises that being determined and tenacious has proven beneficial over the years.
“I am a ‘Bulldog.’ I don’t give up until I get what I need,” she said.
Doreen’s dedication to patient care is truly inspirational. Angel MedFlight is pleased that she will be able to take some much-deserved time off to enjoy her Get Away Giveaway airfare prize.
“I will probably use my voucher for a relaxing vacation in a sunny spot during the dead of the New York winter,” she shared.
We wish her blue skies and smooth flying!
A New Case Manager With A Focus on Teamwork & Creative Solutions
In her role as a floor nurse, Lauren Inman focused on compassionate, bedside care for her pediatric patients in Orlando, Florida. With limited exposure to case managers, she didn’t have a full of appreciation of the position until she transitioned into case management herself last July.
“Coming from the bedside as an RN to case management, I did not realize everything that goes on ‘behind the scenes’ to make sure patients are taken care of even after they are discharged,” Lauren explained.
She quickly realized the positive impact a case manager can make on patient care. In her new role, she enjoys developing creative solutions for treatment outside of the hospital setting.
“My favorite part of my job is being able to get patients home quicker with a shorter inpatient stay by being able to provide home health care, DME, prescription assistance, or finding the right fit at another facility that will provide them the services they need,” she said.
Lauren has already encountered situations that benefit from a collaborative effort. “Being a great team player is one of my most valuable personality traits. It helps me transition difficult situations into positive outcomes for patients.”
Lauren has embraced her new career and she is thankful for other case managers across the country. “It is sometimes a difficult and stressful position. I want to acknowledge and recognize all the other case managers for taking such good care of your patients, sometimes even going above and beyond!”
Her colleagues appreciate Lauren’s dedication as well, encouraging her to join Angel MedFlight’s celebration of National Case Management Week by entering the Get Away Giveaway contest. When she was randomly selected as winner, she knew exactly what she would do with her prize.
“My husband and I plan to use our airfare travel voucher to have a real honeymoon vacation. We had to use all of our honeymoon savings for an unexpected vehicle expense right before we got married a few years ago and still haven’t had the chance to re-do our honeymoon until now!”
Angel MedFlight wishes Lauren and her husband the best on their “real” honeymoon trip!
